TGIF (30) Le Finale!

TGIF is a feature hosted by Ginger over at GReads! Ginger asks a fun question every week and bloggers post their answers. TGIF is a great way to learn about some of your favorite bloggers, and have fun posting too!

This Friday's Question is...

Book Series Finales: Which book, from any series has been your favorite ending? What about your least favorite ending?

I'm actually not a huge fan of series. There are a lot of series that I've started but haven't finished because either a) I'm just not interested in the other books or b) not all of the series is out yet. B seems to be what usually happens. However, there are some series that I've read all the way through.

Favorite Endings

 1. We'll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han (The Summer Trilogy)- I loved the first book in this trilogy, wasn't a huge fan of the second one, but then adored the last book! I really loved having an older protagonist who was mature but not quite an adult. Plus, Jenny Han just did a great job of tying up all the loose ends and then having you heave a heavy sigh of satisfaction. (lots of H's in that sentence)

 2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling (Harry Potter Series)- It's very rare that the last book in a series is my favorite (like really, I can't think of any series but this one where that's the case), but with Harry Potter the last book is one of my favorites. It's a tie between a couple of them. JK Rowling just wrapped everything up in a way that was so perfect but so imperfect at the same time. I mean, I don't like a book/series to end too perfect or too imperfect, but JK Rowling just balanced it perfectly. But then of course, she is pretty much the Writing Wizard. There's hardly a single aspect (if any at all) of her writing that I can criticize.

Least Favorite Endings

 1. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games Trilogy)- It wasn't so much that I didn't like this book, it was more just that it didn't compare to the other two books in the series. At times it was slightly confusing and the whole time I couldn't really get into it that much because I just kept thinking "I can't believe this is happening." Like, I couldn't bring myself to believe what was going on. You know, I get so attached to these characters (it probably isn't healthy how much I love some literary characters) and then all this horrid, horrid stuff starts happening, I don't know. It was just weird.

Although these lists are pretty short (for both favorite and least favorite endings), there are a couple series finales coming up pretty soon that I am very much anticipating. So expect this list to grow in the next couple months.

Enjoy your weekend!

  2. I'm halfway through The Summer I Turned Pretty. I'm glad that last book seems to have a really great, satisfying ending!

I definitely agree with you on Mockingjay. I just wished that Katness had a happier ending after all she's been through.

  4. I think I should read Jenny Han's book. You're not the first one who said something along the lines. Oh and yes, I was a little disappointed in Mockingjay as well. *le sigh*

  5. I like Mockingjay, but get your point as it did depart some from the 1st 2 books. Also a huge Harry Potter fan.

  7. I was satisfied with Mockingjay as an ending overall, but it really didn't compare to the other two books.
I've been seeing We'll Always Have Summer on a lot of people's lists and it's making me really want to start the series soon. I want to read it in the summer, but that's fast approaching!
